Interior designers save you money and time. If you are building or redesigning your home without a professional interior designer you are fully responsible for coordinating and supervising contractors, ensuring timely deliverables of products, scheduling installs, and answering about 10 phone calls a day. Now if you do not have a job, family or any other responsibilities that's not going to get in the way of your life, assuming you have the necessary knowledge. Think of me, an interior designer, as your super fashionable and creative project manager.

Here are some tasks I do as an interior designer you may be surprised by.
Manage and update a project's budget.
Coordinate and supervise on-site construction.
Coordinate and schedule install day.
Maintain the project's calendar to ensure work is done on time and in the right order.
Meet contractors on-site to answer their questions. Yes there are silly questions asked.

Purchase and return items from vendors.
Negotiate pricing with vendors and suppliers.
How an Interior Designer Saves You Money
Maybe it's obvious, but you will make mistakes, expensive ones. My experience makes me less likely to make a mistake. This ensures the project stays on budget. Too many times people choose the incorrect products for areas of their home and contractors don't either know better or care since they will get paid either way. In the end, you will have an expensive issue to fix. Also, interior designers have really great relationships with vendors and suppliers. They want me to continue bringing business to them, so I can negotiate pricing. Same goes for contractors. If they know and like you, they will do a better job. I know that sounds wrong, but it's the way it is. I always tell my clients a Gatorade or donuts in the morning goes a long way for contractors.
How an Interior Designer Saves You Time
There are a lot of phone calls to be had during the design process. I also visit the site at least once a day!

There are thousands of small decisions you don't want to be bothered with. For example, a plumber will call and ask you where you want the toilet paper roll, and an electrician will ask you for a lighting plan before construction begins. I will be able to provide them with the right answers! As an interior designer I get to know you really well, so I can answer all the small questions in your best interest. Unless trained in each field, you won't have the answers. You will know what tile you like, but how it should be installed doesn't need to be your concern. Once you have made the fun selections, I want you to sit back and wait for your dream to manifest in your home.
Higher an Interior Designer
Of course I want to be everyone's interior designer, for I love my job and giving people the home of their dreams. However, I may not be the right designer for you. That's ok! What's important is that you feel comfortable and trusting of your interior designer. It will take a few meetings, but go with the designer you can see being a friend. Not the least expensive option. Anyway, interior designers in your location should be charging about the same amount for their services.
